About Kayla, vegan R.D:

Kayla did a Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics Specialization at the University of Alberta. She is currently registered with the College of Dietitians of Alberta, license #2926.

 

She began her journey as a dietitian specializing in weight management. While doing so, Kayla started developing a love for helping others improve their relationship with food which led her to expand her area of practice.

 

Kayla works as a vegan RD with Plant-Based Dietitians and does online consultations with people living all around Alberta. Given Alberta’s diverse population, Kayla ensures she tailors her consultations to match the dietary and lifestyle needs of each individual.


Her practice encompasses a variety of nutrition topics, including weight management, eating disorders and intuitive eating. Kayla has a strong passion for educating others on the benefits of plant-based eating and how they can incorporate more plant-based practices into their lifestyles.

In her spare time, Kayla works on her food blog and providing others with meal inspiration.

What motivated you to become a dietitian?

I’ve been a foodie my whole life and was always interested in the health and wellness field. In my first years of university, I took a nutrition course and was amazed by how big of a role nutrition plays in one’s health.

This ultimately sparked my motivation for becoming a dietitian – I knew my passion was to help others incorporate better health practices, through food and nutrition, to improve their overall health and well-being.

What benefits do you see to following a vegetarian or vegan diet?

For me, following a plant-based diet has so many benefits. Not only does it help our environment in a numerous of ways, but research has shown that following a vegetarian or vegan diet can lead to a bevy of health benefits as well.

Plant-based foods also taste amazing and have great nutritional value. I love teaching others how to tastefully incorporate these foods into their diets.
