Taryn Miller

Online Vegan Dietitian Practicing Across British Columbia

Hi, I'm Taryn! I strive to support vegan, vegetarian, flexitarian, and plant-based individuals with nutrition care that feels safe, collaborative, and grounded in real life.

Mental Health Nutrition

My clinical experience has been closely connected to mental health care. I have worked with clients experiencing eating disorders, disordered eating, anxiety, autism, major life changes, and other complex mental health concerns.

Eating Disorders & Disordered Eating

I currently work in acute mental health, supporting clients with active eating disorders as well as disordered eating connected to other mental health conditions.

Balanced Plant-Based Eating

I help clients create balanced vegan, vegetarian, and plant-based meals that support their energy, health, and daily routines. I have provided education on balanced eating, informed nutrition choices, and the role nutrition can play in recovery, illness and more.

Transitioning to a Vegan or Vegetarian Lifestyle

I support clients who are curious about, transitioning to, or already following a vegan, vegetarian, or plant-based lifestyle. Together, we can make the process feel more clear, nourishing, and sustainable.

Living as a Vegan or Plant-Based Client

Having been plant-based since 2017, I understand that plant-based eating is about more than simply removing animal products. It can be connected to health, personal values, climate care, identity, culture, and day-to-day routines.

Weight-Inclusive Nutrition Support

Before becoming a dietitian, I worked as a lifestyle and wellness coach, supporting clients with weight-related goals and lifestyle habits. Today, I approach this work through a weight-inclusive lens, focusing on health behaviours, client autonomy, and sustainable change rather than shame or rigid dieting.

Chronic Disease Management

I support clients with chronic disease concerns by helping them understand how nutrition can fit into their larger care plan. This may include building balanced plant-based meals, supporting nutrient needs, and creating realistic strategies that work in everyday life.

Pregnancy & Gestational Diabetes

I have some experience working in a gestational diabetes clinic, where I supported clients in understanding how food choices can affect blood sugar and pregnancy nutrition needs. My approach is practical, reassuring, and focused on helping clients make informed choices.

Plant-Based Sports & Active Living

Personally, I have experience staying active while eating plant-based, including hiking in places like Mount Fuji and the Napali Coast. I understand how important planning, flexibility, and adequate fuelling can be when combining movement, travel, and plant-based eating.

Intuitive Eating

Intuitive eating has been part of my own ongoing journey. Books and education can be helpful, but personal reflection is also a big part of the process. I support clients in exploring their relationship with food with curiosity, compassion, and without judgment.

Taryn and Her Journey with Plant-Based Nutrition

What motivated you to become a dietitian?

I have always loved food. Food brings people together, carries stories across generations, reflects culture, offers comfort, and helps us celebrate. I knew early on that I wanted food to be part of the work I did.

I also grew up connected to local food systems. Food was not only about cooking or eating, it was also about growing, foraging, harvesting, catching, preparing, sharing, and learning from others. Those experiences shaped how I understand food and nutrition today.

Why are you plant-based?

For personal health and planetary health, I wasn’t happy with my gut health or energy levels while eating many animal products. I believe I can live a full life without relying on animal products in my diet. Eating plant-based is one of the most impactful things we can do to counter climate change
