Meet Hannah, a Plant-Based Dietitian based in British Columbia!

Education: Bachelor of Science in Food, Nutrition and Health with a major in Dietetics (Honours) – University of British Columbia

What inspired me to become a dietitian: My lifelong fascination with nutrition led me to pursue a career as an RD. From the moment I learned about this profession years ago, I knew it was the perfect way to blend my interests in food, nutrition, science, and assisting individuals in achieving their goals.

Transition to plant-based lifestyle: I adopted a vegetarian diet in 2008, gradually transitioning to vegan in early 2013, and I’ve been fully plant-based ever since.

Reasons for being plant-based: The advantages of this dietary choice are extensive. For me, the threefold reasons for a plant-based lifestyle are:

  1. Compassion – Recognizing the ethical implications of consuming animals and realizing it’s possible to thrive without them, I opted to fill my plate with delectable plant-based fare.
  2. Sustainability – Embracing predominantly plant-based eating minimizes the environmental impact compared to resource-intensive animal agriculture.
  3. Health – Ample high-quality research attests that a well-designed plant-based diet is optimal for overall health, athletic performance, and mitigating the risk of numerous chronic conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find a dietitian in Victoria?

Private practice online is the fastest way to find a dietitian. By doing so, you will have access to a larger selection of dietitians in your province who are vegetarian or vegan. As an example, I see many vegans and vegetarians across Vancouver Island.

What is the difference between a dietician and a nutritionist in Victoria?

Dieticians are equivalent to nutritionists in Victoria. The College of Dietitians of British Columbia is the regulatory body for individuals with this title. They are in charge of public safety. After our online nutrition sessions, I’ll be able to submit an insurance receipt for both titles.
